I’ve never been a fan of the fleshy fungi. The thing that thrives on radiation and decomposition never was palatable to my taste buds. What they lack in enticing my mouth they more than make up for pleasing my eyes and my camera lens. These wild growing mushrooms are very photogenic. Regardless of my distaste, Dominic is determined to go mushroom collecting in the next few weeks. September is prime mushroom season in Germany and this is a stellar year/century for the fun guys. The only downside of picking our own shrooms is accidentally getting the magical ones. If we don’t happen to poison ourselves with the wrong ones, we would be consuming a natural product jam packed with b-vitamins. B-vitmains are essential for neurological health and cellular metabolism. For instance, a deficiency in vitamin B-3 (Niacin), which is found in most mushroom varieties, may cause pellagra. Pellagra symptoms include; confusion, insomnia, aggression, weakness, and if untreated, can cause death. Perhaps I will give Pilze (german for mushrooms) more chances to be in my diet, but I probably won’t start with the ones we collect in the woods.
